We've been visiting Martha’s Vineyard for over 30 years, exploring different corners of the island along the way. But when it comes to photographing the open sky, Katama has always been my favorite spot. The sunsets there are never ordinary—there’s always a wide, open horizon bursting with color and texture. This shot is a perfect example of one of those dramatic, unforgettable evenings.

About Catherine Hartigan:

My work as an artist began with drawing, painting and a love of the ocean. I have always lived near the water, and it provides meaningful inspiration for me. When I moved toward photography, I began using the lens to create the same effects I was achieving with paintbrush and pencil. I create realistic and abstract water images that are captivating reflections of what we see when we gaze at the ocean.
